The 79th Annual Corsica River Yacht Club regatta was held on the weekend of July 24th-25th, 2021.  Five Penguin teams raced on Saturday, preferring to keep this a one day event.  An onshore postponement was issued as the wind took a while to settle in.  This year, three separate courses were run with the Penguins and Hobie Waves on their own course, directly opposite the launching area on the Corsica River. PRO Joe Barbaro was kept busy trying to keep up with the fickle wind.  The breeze kept oscillating between south and west, with the initial twice around windward leeward course sailed with the windward mark set to the south, and after the second race switched to the west southwest.  There were a few one tack beats, but given the start/finish line obstruction which was a restricted area, and the shifts and holes, everyone had their challenges.  Charlie and Cairn Krafft took the first and third races, while Bill Lawson finished first in races 2 and 4, both by a comfortable margin, which seemed to be the order of the day with the lead boat getting to the shifts first while avoiding some of the prevalent holes on the race course.  Scotty Allan, sailing with daughter Brook, had trouble getting launched in the first race, but came back with a series of competitive finishes in the close racing.  Sandy McAllister sailed with Caroline Corson, who was awarded the Dorsey Owings memorial perpetual trophy that is awarded to the junior sailor who best exemplifies the spirit Dorsey had for sailing with camaraderie, Corinthian sportsmanship, and competitiveness.  Spencer sailed with Parker Corson in boat recently acquired from Bud Dailey, Against the Grain.  CRYC is looking forward to hosting the Penguin Class Championship in September.
