4 Penguins sailed on a beautiful April Saturday which coincided with Oxford Day. Getting to the club took some patience, as we had to wait for the parade of dogs to make it down Morris St., delaying several competitors arrival at the club. We also sailed up the river to avoid any conflict with the helicopter rescue demonstration that occurred off the town park. PRO Eric Crawford set up a windward-leeward course, with the traditional avoid the start/finish line rule, but the southerly shift west turning race one into a no tack beat. After swinging the course to the west, we got off a couple more races, before the wind shifted back to the south and started to build a bit after race three. Needless to say, Eric kept the patrol boats busy moving marks. Bill Lawson and Christine Potts looked invincible taking the first three races. The series came down to a close duel up the final beat of race 6 with Lawson leading, but Krafft having a starboard tack advantage and taking the horn by mere inches for a photo worthy finish. Bill Lane took third. When the Williamson clan showed up on shore, it was hard to compete with the allure of ice cream in Oxford, so Scott and Gracie retired, but were later spotted enjoying ice cream cones ashore.
