2017 Potomac Penguin Fleet #1 Penso Frostbite Regatta

The 2017 PPF#1 Penso Frostbite was sailed in conjunction with the PRSA Spring Regatta on May 27th.  A light breeze and strong current (ebbing) kept the upper course boats from getting any races in, but the Penguins and Lasers raced in the cove and managed 5 races.  PRO Geoff Fuller assisted by Amy Krafft efficiently ran the windward leeward multi-lap courses.
Scott Allan took a bullet in the first race.  Hank Krafft, sailing with his granddaughter Ana Valenzuela in her first sailboat race, finished second in the second race, but decided to call it a day midway through the fourth race as they weren’t adequately prepared for the slightly damp conditions we eventually encountered.  The fifth race was a battle of the crews, with Stewart Allan figuring out the tricky current at the weather mark and finishing ahead of Donna McKenzie.

PRSA put on a marvelous Mediterranean style dinner catered by the Lebanese Taverna.  Fortunately, the food was set up under some pop-up tents so everything stayed dry during the brief downpours.
