Gibson Island Yacht Squadron Fall Frostbite

Lawson Rum Bucket

Saturday, Nov.17th, 2012

The six Penguins that showed up for the Gibson Island Frostbite were met with a cool north easterly breeze on a true to form, frosty morning.  Only 4 opted to sail as the solid white caps on the bay, visible from the rigging area seemed a bit imposing.  However, the lagoon where we sail is well protected and the four boats that did sail had a nice series of six races.

Tom Price did an excellent job as PRO, adjusting the line to keep it square as the wind was oscillating a bit.  The strong winds on the bay did not extend across the isthmus and at some point three of the four boats sailed single-handed.  Read and Read Beigel sailed together and then tried a couple of races single-handed.  Charlie Williamson was cold after four races and wanted to go in, but he was OK with hanging out on the committee boat for the last two races while dad Scott sailed solo.  Wil Wagner, who couldn’t spring his son from swim practice, also sailed solo.  Charlie Krafft and Donna McKenzie sailed consistently, often coming from behind on the final beat, as the racing was closer than the final results indicated.
