5 boats on the River. NW winds, 3 - 10. High water with a strong ebb and not an enormous amount of debris, considering the recent rains. Committee set a triangle course, which put them up against the shoal on the right side of the beat. Big shifts, and the usual Potomac River flukiness. Dailey bested us (we were leading in the last race, but he broke our cover (double fake tack), at the leeward mark and ended up finding a bit more pressure on the right. Majane had 2 seconds, beating both Bud and me in separate races, but was otherwise was generally third. Mac Dickson, an accomplished Opti sailor, skippering his first Penguin regatta in JB's old Burtis, 9657, ended up 4th and his father finished fifth in a heroic effort to keep the main from falling down (halyard cleat problems) and overcoming a swamping (he hopped out of the boat and stood in the muck to bail the boat out) -
