Hello Everyone
As most of you
could guess there was a little too much wind on the lagoons for Penguin sailing
last Sunday.
Six skippers
showed up at the pond. It looked like it might be OK to sail. A few
boats launched
and tested out the
conditions. It was fun until you were hit with gusts over 20 knots that
you thought
this
doesn't look good. So the decision was made not to continue sailing
for the day.
We hauled the
boats out and enjoyed some conversation and a beverage in the parking lot.
I know we are all
looking for some nice weather for this weekend.
Please remember
that after the Single Handed Championship on the 28th we will meet
at the home of Dawn and Jon Pegis for the annual chili party.
If we do not sail
on the 28th we will meet there at 4:00.
Please let us
know how many of you are planning to attend so we know how to prepare.
Thank you to Dawn
and Jon for inviting us all to your home.
Hope to see you
all this Sunday. Start time is 1:00.

Hello Everyone
Saturday we
sailed in perfect lagoon conditions for the first annual Richard Tennerstedt Regatta.
Wind was
Southwest 5 to 8 knots. Seven boats sailed seven races. Mark Kastel took the event with a last minute pick up crew. They
won the first race as if they had been sailing here every week. They sailed
well enough the rest of the day to finish five points ahead of Team 9730 in
second. This was some very close racing. The first four races were won by
different boats. After that it was up to the guys with the time at the lagoon.
Mark and Sandy have been sailing here longer then
most of us and the results show it. Conditions were a bit squirrelly at times
and that is what makes it interesting at the lagoon. Trying to keep the boat moving
while you wait to see which way the fill in was going to be from can be quite
taxing. I am sure everyone enjoyed the afternoon. After the racing everyone
gathered at the Rapp residents for a few hours. Thank you for inviting all of
us to your home. It was nice to see the group get together after sailing. We
can look forward to seeing some pictures from the day courtesy of Richard Blatt. I can't wait to see them,
this was a great day to be on the water.
Thank you to Ed
for setting up the course and scoring the races.
Thank you to
everyone that sailed.

Hello Everyone
Once again we enjoyed ideal
frostbite sailing conditions at the lagoon.
Wind was Northeast at around 8
knots. Temp was just around 50 but the wind was off the big lake and had some
chill to it.
Seven boats sailed six races. Only
one boat sailed with crew and I think the results display that having two
people in the boat works.
Team 9730 showed us how to get it
done in the first two races and sailed well enough in the rest to win the day.
Bill caught the shifts right and
kept it going to take the win in the third race. Ross took second in the fourth
race
and won the fifth race. Dan followed suit and took second in
the fifth race and won the sixth race.
I did not see the action but there were some
different opinions on how to get around the top mark in some of the races.
It looked like a few boats were sailing
around in circles. I am glad someone was trying to keep it fun.
Congratulations to Ross in second
and Bill in third for the day. Both of you were sailing well.
Getting that boat dialed in and
taking second for the day, finishing just one point ahead of Bill should feel
good.
Congratulations to Team 9730 for
winning the day.
Thank you to everyone that sailed
and helped with launching and hauling.
Please remember that next Saturday
November 6th is the Richard Tennerstedt Regatta.
Skippers meeting will be at 12:00.
Start is at 12:30.
Sunday November 7th we will sail
Fall Series day 6. Start is at 1:00.

Hello Everyone
This week was just as fun as last
week. The rain cleared up and it was a nice afternoon for sailing.
It was very demanding for how
small the course was. The wind was 14 knots from the Southwest.
Four boats sailed four races.
Thank you to Marco for handling the RC duties.
Jack was able to win the first
race by winning the start and just keeping it moving good the whole way around.
I tried to port tac the start in the second race
and ended up taking all their transoms. It worked out anyway
as the wind went left for a few moments after the start and
by the time they came around to port the wind was
back to the right and I was in clean air on starboard and they
never caught up. Bobby and crew took the fourth
race, which I did not see because of some equipment failure.
The port side shroud pin at the base of the adjuster was missing.
I noticed it just as I was turning
on to port. I went back to starboard and thought, how am I going to get in to
the dock
without wrecking the boat. I had no spare pins or any line. I was
able to put the hook on the rubber band that pulls the cars forward
in to the stay adjuster and I think it would have worked for
a few more races. So it was jerry rigged and I tried to finish. I had to save
that one point.
The wind seemed to be getting
stronger so we decided to call it after the fourth race.
As we sailed to the dock the wind
calmed down to 10 knots. We should have kept sailing.
There was a bit of rain as the
boats arrived at the dock. It lasted only a few minutes.
It was not enough to require a
jacket. It was a short day with only four boats.
Thank you guys for helping with me
pack up the boats.
Please remember to mark your
calendars for next month.
We will sail Saturday November 6th
and Sunday November 7th.
The 6th will be the
Richard Tennerstedt Regatta, formerly known as the
Cold N’ Nasty.
We will meet at 12:00 and Start at
12:30, $10 Entry Fee.
On Sunday the 7th we
will sail Fall Series Day 6 Start time is at 1:00 as that will be the end
of DST for this year.
Let’s all hope for a nicer day
next week.
See you Next Sunday. Start time is
1:30.
You can wear your costumes if you
want.

Hello everyone
Once again we enjoyed another perfect
day for sailing at the lagoon.
Wind was Northeast 5 to 8 knots,
10 boats turned out and we sailed six races.
The line was short and the RC boat
was tucked in the trees near the island. This made for a few jam-ups at the
boat. We found out that only one boat could fit between the RC boat and the
trees. The starts were very exciting and must have been fun to watch. The
racing was very challenging. The score sheet shows it was not an easy day to
find your way to the front of the pack. I enjoyed the competition as I am sure
everyone did also.
It was an even split between boats
with crew and the single hander boats.
Five sailed with crew and five
sailed single handed with three out of the top five boats sailing with crew. I
think the boat is fast with two. Good to see some children crewing in some of
the boats. That is what this class is all about, and has been over the years.
There are many great yacht racers out there who spent time in Penguins in the
early stages of their sailing experience. So thank you to you guys for doing
your part in perpetuating the great sport of sailing. We could use more of that
at the lagoon.
Bob and new crew Mia Moline sailed well. Mia
at 6 and 3/4 years old was sailing her first races at the pond. They had their
act together by the end of the day to win the last race. This gave them the one
point ahead to take fourth for the day.
Congratulations to Jeanne and
Jeanette for winning the day. The girls have the boat figured out and have been
showing us all how it is done. This is a competitive fleet and that was some
great sailing.
Two weeks in a row. Come on guys
we have to do something about this.
Thank you to Ed for starting and
scoring the day, and for calling those over early boats,
and the close finishes. From all of us thank you Jeanne for
the twizzlers.
Thank you to everyone that sailed.
This was a great day to be on the water.
Hope to see you all next Sunday.

Hello Everyone
As I am sure you know Sunday
turned out to be a great day for sailing at the Lagoon.
Wind was West at 7 to 10 with the
occasional gusts to 12. It was a good direction to have a long course.
Racing started on time at 1:30. We
sailed six races. There were seven boats on the line.
The starting was very aggressive.
I didn’t have any successful starts this week.
This was the first time in a while
that we had someone in the RC boat. This turned out to be a good thing because
there was some very close finishing.
Thank you to Dan for getting the
committee boat from the Lloyd beach. This is a big help for us all.
Launching went well. The haul out
went a bit slower due some kayakers using the ramp as a meeting place.
Congratulations to Jean and Jeanettefor winning the day. This was a super
fun afternoon of sailing.
We could use some help with the
Race Committee for this weekend.
Thank you to everyone that sailed.
Hope to see you all this Sunday

Hello Everyone
The Fall Series opener turned out
to be a very tricky day to sail.
Wind was Northeast 12 to 15 gusts
near 20 with chill temps low enough to
call it frostbite sailing. Five boats came out to race. We all
sailed single handed.
Three of us sailed a single lap in
the first race while we waited for some additional boats.
The rest of the races were two
laps. The course was set along the East side of the lagoon.
It was very hard to time the
approach to the starting line with the wind speed and direction changing
constantly.
There were a few spectators out to
watch the racing. It must have been funny to see as it was very
frustrating in the middle of the course where the wind seemed to be
coming from all directions.
Thank you to everyone that sailed
Hope to see more of you this
weekend.
Patrick
